Life is an Adventure

Update time!
Well, it looks like I am getting into the swing of things here at Gallaudet University.  I have survived my second week of classes, I have turned in my first few homework assignments and projects, and have been making a bunch of new friends.  I also went with a group of Gallaudet students to my first DPHH (Deaf Professional Happy Hour) on Friday night where I got to meet a bunch of new people, and practice my signing.

REFRIDGERATOR ADVENTURE!
So last week my roommate Melissa, and 2 of the girls from my building Jackie and Heather, and I went to Walmart.  Melissa and I's main goal was to get a fridge for our suite.  We drove to Alexandria, VA to the Walmart, collected all of the things we need, and went out to the car and realized that the fridge did not fit in Melissa's car.  The doors wouldn't open wide enough! *tears* BUT luckily Melissa's cousins live in DC and were kind enough to come rescue us with their Ford Explorer!  Yipee!  There are no pictures of me though...this always happens when I have the camera.

PRANK WARS PART 3 & 4:
So you read my post about how James hung my pillow up in the emergency stairwell. Since that post there have been 2 more stages in the prank wars.  The pictures are worth 1,000 words-enjoy!
Part 3: James is taped in!
So my plan was to use an entire roll of blue painters tape to cover James' door-- when he was supposedly gone I started my taping project.  Turns out he wasn't gone...and when I was part way through the taping process he opened the door from the inside and totally scared me!  But, he did have a nice web of tape over his door!

Part 4: Nicole sleeps in the common area!
So, Melissa and I went to the basement to move our laundry, and being STUPID left our door unlocked with James around.  When we got back (5 minutes later) he had moved all my bedding to the common area and put it on the tables.  Sad times!

VIEWS FROM OUR ROOM!
[sunset over the city]
[Our new pet pigeon-clearly he is waiting for his hot date and they are planning on watching football! He landed on our balcony and chilled there for over an hour!]

Well that is it for now!

Adventures with Cindy!

So today I met up with Cindy and we adventured to see the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. AKA the biggest Catholic church in America.  It is on the site of the Catholic University of America (2 metro stops from Gallaudet). It was crazy and very huge!  The art inside was amazing, and was all mosaic.  Wow!

These are all the pictures that I took:
This is building of Philosophy, Letters, and Sciences
(where their Linguistics department would be---if they have one)

mosaic on the ceiling!
crazy huge organ!
those are all panels of stained glass on the ceiling of the dome
The building there (that looks like a Castle) is an undergrad dorm! Wow!
